Ginger and Honey Cachaça: How to Serve It, Cocktails and Kitchen Uses
Ginger and honey cachaça brings together two things Brazilians love: the fresh, slightly spicy kick of ginger and the rounded sweetness of honey. The result is an easy-drinking spirit that works neat, in cocktails and even in the kitchen. Here are the best ways to enjoy yours.
What makes ginger and honey cachaça special
The Biroots Artisanal Ginger and Honey Cachaça is made with no chemicals at all, from growing the sugarcane to production. The honey and ginger make it smooth despite its 40% ABV, and it is especially popular with those who prefer lighter, sweeter spirits.
On the nose, ginger comes first, fresh and citrusy. On the palate, honey softens it and leaves a slightly sweet finish, with the gentle warmth of the spice.
How to serve it neat:
Well chilled: our top tip. Keep the bottle in the fridge and serve straight from it.
In the right glass: a shot glass or a small tulip glass, which concentrates the ginger aroma.
As an aperitif: before Sunday lunch or a barbecue, to whet the appetite.
As a digestif: after a meal, in a small pour, alongside coffee.
With a citrus touch: an orange peel or a slice of lime in the glass brings out the ginger.
6 cocktails with ginger and honey cachaça
1. Ginger and honey caipirinha

2. Brazilian mule
In a glass with ice, add 50 ml of cachaça and the juice of half a lime, then top up with ginger beer or ginger ale. Finish with mint leaves. It's the Brazilian take on the Moscow Mule.
3. Cachaça and tonic
50 ml of cachaça, 150 ml of tonic water, plenty of ice and a slice of lime or orange. Light, refreshing and perfect for hot days.
4. Tropical spritz

5. Passion fruit and ginger caipirinha
The pulp of half a passion fruit, ice and 50 ml of cachaça. The tartness of the passion fruit balances the sweetness of the honey and pairs beautifully with the ginger.
6. Spiked hot tea
For cold days: make a hot cinnamon or lemon tea and add a shot of cachaça just before serving. Warming and comforting.
In the kitchen
Ginger and honey go well with both savory and sweet dishes. A few ideas:
Flambéed shrimp: sauté shrimp in butter with garlic and, at the end, add a shot of cachaça and flambé carefully (turn off the range hood and keep your distance). Serve with Cashew Sauce with Amazonian Pepper.
Glaze for pork: reduce the cachaça with soy sauce and a drizzle of honey, then brush it on ribs or pork loin in the last few minutes in the oven or on the grill.
Chicken marinade: cachaça, lime juice, garlic and the Sweet and Sour Seasoning Mix. Let it marinate for a few hours before roasting.
Grilled pineapple: grill pineapple slices with cinnamon and drizzle with a little cachaça. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
